15.15h –THE EIGHT DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER (Hong Kong) de Liu Chia-liang (Retro Shaw) – v.o. leg. ingl.
Um poderoso filme de artes marciais, com coreografias excepcionais. “The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter” é um filme “puro e duro” mas lida, também, com valores importantes para a sociedade chinesa (e não só), como são a honra de uma família e a lealdade a um país. Um clássico.

17.15h – DER GOLEM (Ale/Ger) de Henrik Galeen, Paul Wegener (Retro Expressionismo Alemão) – mudo.
Realizado, produzido e protagonizado por Paul Wegener, “Der Golem” é uma obra prima do Expressionismo Alemão. Os habitantes da cidade constroem um homem de barro e pedra para os defender da tirania e opressão. Com a ajuda de magia ancestral, a criatura ganha vida e protege os judeus.

125 Days of Fantasporto events in Downtown Porto

Moonspell and Daemonia are the bands leading the festivities of Halloween at the Sá da Bandeira Theatre. It’s the beginning of 125 days of events organized by the popular Fantasporto.
The gothic metal music dominates the performance of the Portuguese group Moonspell, one of the most internationally known rock bands.
As to the Italian Daemonia, it’s the return to Porto of Claudio Simonetti‘s band, after their success last March.

These concerts and the Halloween Ball which will follow help keep the name of the Porto Film Festival alive. This also happens with other film events all over the country which are organised by Fantasporto through the year.
The Halloween Party and other programmed events also help in the revitalisation of downtown Porto, its bars, restaurants and hotels. The events include art exhibitions, film retrospectives and a spectacular firework and multimedia show, organised in cooperation with …

Uma história de amor e traição, num futuro pós-apocalíptico só para alguns eleitos. Acção, ficção científica e romance combinados num filme que junta animação 2D, 3D e miniaturas, e que a “Variety” diz “liderar o futuro na tecnologia dos media”.
A poluição e os desastres ambientais deixaram a Terra à beira da extinção. Para poderem sobreviver, os homens criaram a Ecoban, uma cidade com um escudo especial que, além de proteger os seus habitantes da poluição, se alimenta dessa mesma poluição.

Festival decorre entre 17 de Fevereiro e 6 de Março

Pelo menos desde o longínquo ano de 1982, que os então espectadores do Fantasporto conhecem este pioneiro do cinema francês que, a par de Méliès, deu ao género fantástico uma dignidade que ele sempre teve, mas que poucas vezes lhe foi reconhecida. Falamos de Louis Feuillade, francês, realizador e criador dessa maravilhosa série chamada “Les Vampires” a par de uma outra, de seu nome “Fantomas”. É esse senhor que vai ser um dos homenageados da edição 21 do Festival Internacional de Cinema do Porto, Fantasporto’2001, que decorrerá entre 17 de Fevereiro e 6 de Março de 2000, em plena Capital Europeia da Cultura.
Seguramente que já ouviram falar, por certo, em filmes de sketches. Aquelas histórias, divididas em n capítulos, onde no fim de cada episódio o herói ficava envolto no maior dos perigos, apenas para se conseguir salvar da maneira mais heróica no início da parte seguinte.

INTACTO, L.I.E., CYPHER, 28 DAYS LATER and TOY LOVE

The Spanish Cinema, again a huge success at Fantasporto’ 2003. After last year’s winner, “Fausto 5.0” , the International Jury rewards the vitality of Spanish Cinema with its Best Fim Award of the Fantasy Section to the film INTACTO by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, a film that also won the Best Screenplay Award at this 23rd edition of the Oporto International Film Festival.

In the competitive Directors’ Week, the absolute winner was the American L.I.E. by Michael Cuesta, a first film by a man who just happens to be the head behind the highly successful TV series, “Seven Feet Under”.
